Thank You Mr. Gerry

(ROCK HILL) - I am excited to be a Sullivan County resident for the first time in a long time. Thank you, Mr. Gerry. You have restored my faith. No longer are we beholden to the dynamic trio of Albany bureaucrats. You have given us hope and impetus to grow.

I almost cried after the casino amendment was voted down. I didn't see any hope for any meaningful development here in Sullivan County. I was wrong and I am happy to admit it.

The Woodstock site had been of keen interest to me since I was in high school. Each year since I was in hight school, I have visited the site, including the chicken manure year. Last year, my wife and I brought our children with us for the first time.

I have always felt that the site could provide an immense economic boost to this county and its residents. I have previously written articles regarding my views on developing the site in this particular forum. My views always depended on public sponsorship. I never believed it was possible to find the necessary private backing.

Alan Gerry is someone whose entrepreneurial skills are unparalleled. If there is any question, simply visit the CVI building in Liberty. It is far and away the most impressive structure to be built in Sullivan County in my lifetime.

I'm told that behind the desk where Gerry sits is a picture of him on a pole stringing cable. He has accomplished an amazing feat in less than a lifetime, from stringing cable to the Forbes list. This is the type of person that can and will pull off the right kind of development at the site.

Now it is our turn to help. We should contact our local government representatives and make sure every effort is made to assist Mr. Gerry and Granite Associates in their efforts. We need careful development at the site and we need it now.

Thank you, Mr. Gerry.
