Map to the 1969 Woodstock Music and Art Fair Site

Woodstock Road Map

Notice the "Road Closed" inserts? Well, listen to this story, Woodstock fans... After 22 years of folks gathering at the site on its August anniversary, The town supervisor (just what is a supervisor?) named Allan Scott convinced the town elders that enough was enough. Citing public safety, he used his authority under town law to unilaterally close all roads giving access to the site. Using snowplows and police units to carry out his edict created a scenario that had to be seen to be believed. Here were rather embarrassed officers forced to turn away countless travelers. Local property owners had to prove who they were before being allowed to pass. Concerns were raised as to how emergency equipment (fire or ambulances) were supposed to respond to calls. The Department of Transportation and the State Attorney General's office weren't certain whether Mr. Allan Scott's actions were legal, but then, what government official would want to take a career risk by making a decision. Limited pedestrian traffic was allowed but no one was allowed to trespass onto the site.

So he ruined the reunion, right?? Wrong...Wrong... Woodstockers knew in advance of Mr. Allan Scott's personality quirks and plans had already been made for a gathering at the Arrowhead Ranch. The aura was there...the music was there...and memories were shared...

These restrictions were only in place during the 1991-92 reunion. The site is now open to the public.

People like Mr. Allan Scott will pass on and fade away...like a pimple on the ass of history, and what will be remembered....WOODSTOCK!!!
